A day in Mérida continued

On the way to the sights we have the bonus of seeing a Media maratón or half marathon.  It is very popular and just the weather, crisp and sunny.

The Museo Nacional de Arte Romano, constructed in 1986 above the Roman walls, is a wonderfully light, accessible building.  It uses traditional styles and bricks in a refreshing interpretation, presenting the mosaics and sculptures as if emerging from the ruins. The exhibits, displayed on three levels of the basilica-like hall, include statues from the theatre, the villas and forum, and a number of mosaics.

Ceres, the Roman God of agricultures is shown below.

A close up of the signature of the sculptor can be seen in the folds of the garment.

Here we have Zeus.

I am amazed that this fish is two thousand years old.

So, once again a riverside picnic beckons. Here's the spot by Puente Romano and Alcazar.
